Snowy Owls in Addison Vermont

From Jan 2014

Last week my wife said we should go looking for the Snowy Owl supposed to be down the road from us.  I haven’t been out birding much, work has been busy and I think if I haven’t been getting out, the lack of light takes some of my drive and energy away during the off times.  I doubted we would find the owl, but we went out for a drive and ended up seeing three different Snowy Owls, with really great close looks at two of them.  I didn’t get super close, some folks were walking right up to them on the tree.  Supposedly less spooked by people than other owls, I figure move slow and in small increments and watch the animal to make sure it is ok with your presence. Although the lighting has not been ideal when they were close, we have gone out and seen them several times for great looks if not pictures. I know my family has never been happier than living in this wonderful place, and now that we saw the owls, my spark to get out of the house has been started, which is good. Now if only we didn’t keep getting ice. Keeping the snow fluffy is much preferable. Today is raining all day and it will be sub freezing the rest of the week.

  1. Ah, Addison, you are almost in the worlds smallest city. I’m glad you got your owls.

Your photos would be so much better w/out the distracting, pretentious watermark. Even professional photographers are not that obvious..

They truly are magnificent creatures. So glad you were able to spot a few. Fantastic images, Dan!

Very nice Dan! I know how hard it is to get out int he cold, gray and snow but these views of the snowy definitely made it worth it! Soon I will be in the same situation as Gus and I are moving back to Maine at the beginning of February!
