A Snowy Thursday

Note the almost perfect shot of the snowflake above – From 12.12

This winter seems to be starting off on the right foot. We had a white Christmas and today, we have had just about a foot of snow and it’s supposed to snow for several more hours. A bonus for the snow, other than getting to play with shovel and tractor and sleds, is the birds are less shy at the feeder. Standing close as I typically do, many landed on my hat and hand and arms while waiting in line to refuel. The Redpolls (Common and Hoary) seem to be less shy than Chickadees, but eventually the House Finches came up close, just inches away from me. Too close to take photos but amazing to watch. Amazing how tiny these birds look when up close.  You can identify each individual feather.  I found myself naming feathers as they fed.
